The default WordPress theme displays this behaviour as well, and as Darwin Theme is a direct descendant of the default WordPress theme it works the same way. If you want the sidebar to stay there you'll have to do some copy and pasting from the main"index.php" i think to the "single.php" file. Sorry I haven't had much time to work on this theme lately.
